Your Questions About Grendel’s Father

Robert questions…

For school, I’m reading Beowulf and I need help with this question-”Who do you reckon Grendel’s father is? Why?

Well because Grendel’s mother is a major figure but i don’t know anything about Grendel’s father.

swancky answers:

*Reads before answers*

Sigh.

Cain isn’t Grendel’s father, he’s Grendel’s anscestor.

Grendel is a demon-descendant of Cain. Cain was cursed by the Lord, and “from his curse there sprung ogres and evil phantoms” etc.

The Ancient English term Eotan (plural Eotenas) applied to Grendel refers to the descendants of Cain, who are demons, etc. They had “human” anscestry (It doesn’t have to make sense genetically; this is written early middle ages, remember?) and possibly demonic ancestry as well. Other comments later in the poem (less obvious in Modern English, pretty clear in Ancient English) mention that “God gave them [the Eotenas] their reward [for their evil].” AKA, Noah’s Flood.
This would probably be reference to Biblical “Nephelim.”

So given all that, a quick conglomeration of what is mentioned and/or implied:

-Grendel’s father is nameless.
-Grendel is a form of demon-creature, called Eotenas.
-The Eotenas’ ancestry includes Cain (human).
-The Eotenas appear to be the same as Biblical Nephilim. Within the context of Beowulf, then, it seems likely that their ancestry includes fallen Angels (AKA full-fledged demons) For info, see Biblical account in Genesis, right before it starts talking about Noah. If you can get ahold of it, check the Zondervan “Archaeological Study Bible” and find the info on the Nephilim. I reckon that’s somewhere in Judges, but there should be an index at the back. That sorta weird “demigod” theory should give you an thought of Grendel’s ancestry.)
-It doesn’t have to make sense genetically (and, realistically, if demon/human hybrids are caught up, it probably wouldn’t have to anyway) because this was written in the early middle ages.

That said….
I guess Satan could be Grendel’s father, but that seems sorta melodramatic.
My first point would be that “Grendel’s father” doesn’t “exist” as a specific character/being, because that would be reaching beyond the planet of the narrative. You’re stretching into assigning extraneous statements to the text. Of course, that said, I we’re gonna delve into theoretical the makings fathers for Grendel, I like two different thoughts: First, that he doesn’t have a “father” (and that his mother isn’t his mother in the normal sense of the word) but rather he just sorta came into being as a twisted orc-like creation of his “mother.” Or that his father was one of the Norse gods, probably Odin. In other Northern Christain semi-Christian writings (especially Norse) the ancient Gods are regularly described as powerful eotan-like beings which strove (futilely) with God to try to hold the North under their sway.

Excellent luck, BTW. Beowulf is such a fantastic poem!

Susan questions…

Have you read the epic Norse poem Beowulf … and watched the travesty of a movie adaptation?

If so, what did you reckon of it? Obviously, I despised it. If I’d never read or studies the poem (which is *wonderful*) I may have loved the movie but, since I have, I am sickened by the bastardization of the poem and saddened to reckon that people who’ve never read the poem could reckon that this really is the tale of Beowulf. I despise it that the writers made the fantastic King of the Danes a poor drunk, the Queen a weakling, and Beowulf a braggart and wicked. I despise that Grendel’s father isn’t Satan (as he is in the poem) and I despise the thought of Beowulf making a deal with the Hag and fathering the Dragon.

Even the live action movie with Christopher Lamb (I reckon) wasn’t this horriffic.

Anyway, what do you reckon? And please, if you have never read the poem, don’t answer this question; I only want to know what people reckon in evaluation between the two.
Right. Because watching the movie in 3-D will really fix the horrible plot.

swancky answers:

Having neither read the poem nor seen the film I feel I have a unique viewpoint on this question and also I have a deeply held conviction that total blithering ignorance of a given subject should never be a bar to having passionate, nay, fanatical opinions about it. The poem probably needs more material about ickle bears and the film could benefit from a few shots of kittens looking out of a dustbin.

Paul questions…

In Beowulf what do these lines mean (With Grendel’s 12 yrs)?

I’m particularly interested in the meaning of “Slayer of Souls” are they referring to the Devil? This quote is with they talk of Grendel’s 12 years of terror and people are praying for some one to help, but to who are they praying to? Is this considered Christian belief? Pagan?

“With many an outrage, many a crime,
The fierce lone-goer, the foe of man,
Stained the seats of the high-built house,
Haunting the hall in the hateful dark.
But throne or treasure he might not upset,
Finding no favor or grace with God.
Fantastic was the grief of the Scylding leader,
His spirit shaken, even as many a lord
Gathered in council considering long
In what way courageous men best could struggle
Against these terrors of sudden attack.
From time to time in their heathen temples
Paying homage they offered prayer
That the Slayer of souls would send them succor
From all the torment that troubled the folk.
Such was the fashion and such the faith
Of their heathen hearts that they looked to hell,
Not knowing the Maker, the mighty Judge,
Nor how to worship the Wielder of glory,
The Lord of heaven, the God of hosts.
Woe unto him who in fierce affliction
Shall plunge his soul in the fiery pit
With no hope of mercy or healing change;
But well with the soul that at death seeks God,
And finds his concord in his Father’s bosom.”

swancky answers:

Christianity became wide-spread through the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms all through the seventh century, although the architecture of the time would suggest many people still kept some of the older beliefs along side Christianity. The poem is dated between the eight and eleventh century (when Christianity would have been common place) but set between the fifth and seventh, when it wasn’t.

Before Christianity, Norse religious traditions were more common place and usually caught up more than one Deity – so the use of “God”, “Father” and “Lord” would suggest it’s meaning it in a Christian sense. It’s also value noting that this text would have been translated from its first Ancient English.

All you questions above can be answered there. Just find it under each of the headings.

Hope this helps!

Laura questions…

Where is the alliteration(s) in this small-tale of beowulf?

Beowulf: Beowulf Hears of Grendel

But a fighter of Hygelac’s
heard of Grendel’s doings;
he was the strongest of men
alive in that day,
mighty and noble.
That man called for a ship,
said he would cross the ocean
and help the king who looked-for help.
Wise men urged him
to that adventure
though he was dear to them.
They examined omens
and whetted him on.
So the excellent Geat chose
the most courageous warriors,
fourteen of them,
and that crafty sailor
led them to the domain brim,
to the ship.
They readied the ship
on the waves under the cliffs
and the warriors stood at the prow
as the water wound against the sand.
The warriors bore
into the ship’s bosom
bright weapons,
fitted armor.
The men shoved
the well-braced ship
out on the journey
they’d dreamed of.
The foamy-necked ship
went out like a bird
so that the next day
its curved prow
had gone so far
that the seafarers saw land,
bright shore cliffs
and steep mountains.
Their journey was already over
and the Geat warriors
pulled their ship to the shore
and stood on land
in their rattling shirts,
their war-clothes. They
thanked God for an simple trip.
From his wall the sea-guard of the Danes,
protector of the cliffs,
saw bright shields
and ready war dress
coming over the gang plank
and he wondered
who those men were.
Hrothgar’s fighter rode
to shore on his horse.
Shaking a mighty spear, he spoke:
“Who are you, in armor,
who come over the sea-road
in that steep keel?
Listen: I guard here
so that no forces
hostile to the Danes
may raid. Never has
one so openly brought
a ship’s army, warriors,
without the permission of my kinsmen.
And never have I seen
a greater man on earth,
any man in armor,
than is one among you.
Unless I’m incorrect,
that is no hall-man,
just in armor–
his stature is peerless.
I wish to know your lineage now
so I know you are not spies
vacant into the land of the Danes.
You far-dwellers, seafarers,
hear my simple thought:
you had best rush to tell me
where you come from.”
Beowulf, leader of the host
unlatched his word-supply:
“As to kin, we are of the Geat state,
Hygelac’s hearth-companions.
My father was a leader well renowned
among the people: Edgtheow.
He stayed many winters
before he went away,
aged, from the court.
Each wise man readily remembers
him throughout the earth.
We have come with forthcoming hearts
to see your lord, Healfdene’s son,
protector of the people.
Be excellent counsel to us:
we have come on a fantastic errand
to the king of the Danes.
I reckon it foolish
to keep secrets. You know
if it is right what we have heard,
that a dark enemy in the nights
works violence and slaughter
on the Danes. . . . I don’t know
in kindness I may advise Hrothgar
how he, wise and well-known,
may overcome this enemy–
if change will ever come,
relief from this evil–
and how this seething sorrow
might become cool.
Otherwise, he will suffer tribulation
as long as he lives in that high place,
the best of houses.”
The protector of the coast,
still on his horse, spoke
(a wise shield fighter,
one who thinks well,
must judge two things:
works and words):
“I see that you are a band
forthcoming to the lord of the Danes.
Go forth, bearing arms and equipment.
I will guide you. Also,
I will order my men
to protect your ship,
that new-tarred boat on the sand,
until it bears you again
back over the water streams
with its curved wooden neck,
back to the land of the Geats–
if it be granted that you
endure the battle.”
They left then the well-made ship
pulling at its rope.
On the gold-adorned helmets
figures of boars shone,
those guards over war-like minds.
The men excitedly marched until
they saw that ornamented hall,
the finest building on earth,
that glittered light over many lands,
where the mighty one waited.
The one courageous in battle pointed
toward the resplendent hall;
the guard of the coast turned
his horse and said with them:
“It is time for me to go.
May the Father Omnipotent hold you
safe and signal in kindness!
I will go back to the sea
to hold against hostile bands.”
I know it looks very long. But I only need one model of an alliteration.
Do not worry. You are not HELPING me do my homework. I need to further elaborate on the classification of these words by myself. The homework assignment is not “help me find one alliteration” It’s more complex than that.

swancky answers:

Alliteration can also be over a few lines, like in the following lines the words: “waves, warriors, water, warriors, weapons.”

on the waves under the cliffs
and the warriors stood at the prow
as the water wound against the sand.
The warriors bore
into the ship’s bosom
bright weapons

2. As sons (and daughters) of God, to inherit all things that the Father has (Revelation 21:7)
3.To become one with Christ, as Christ is one with the Father (John 17:20-23)
4.To sit with Christ on His throne (Rev. 3:21)
5.To receive a glorified, immortal body like the body that Christ has (Philip. 3:21)
6.To partake of the divine nature and be given all things pertaining to life and godliness, receiving glory (2 Peter 1:3-4)
7.To be made – in some way – like Christ when He returns (1 John 3:2)
8.To be made kings and priests unto God and his Father (Rev. 1:6)
9. As spirit children of God, to become partakers of his holiness (Heb. 12:9-10)
10.To be exalted by God (1 Peter 5:6)
11.To become perfect, even as our Father in Heaven is perfect (Matt. 5:48)
.

In no way am I (or the scriptures) saying that we can replace God, just that we can become gods… as the Bible and Prophets point toward.
Linda R: you didn’t read all of my question…

I said WE DON’T BECOME GOD WE BECOME gods
Oogleboogle…

I didn’t say we become gods through our own merit… only through Christ.

swancky answers:

To believe we have that potentiall it is necessary to know we have sinned but can redeem ourselves( or can be redeemed if you reckon “ourselves” is not God). Many say this but believe otherwise out of obsession, the need for an excuse.

Edit: and ooggle… Is right, if we don’t grasp that it is God working through us and not our egotistical self, then we fall into fake pride.

Charles questions…

Believers – Based upon these scriptures, eternal security?

Take a look at that scripture and the surrounding text. Clarify how that means that a person cannot lose their salvation if they do not overcome?

Revelations 3:1-12

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelations%203:1-12;&translation=31;

Also, look at the passages about the sheep and the goats Matthew 25:32-41

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2025:32-41&translation=31

And Revelations 21:11-15

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelations%2020:11-15;&translation=31;

Revelations 21:6-9

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelations%2021:6-9;&translation=31;

Clarify how in looking at those passages you can sincerely say that a person can be saved and if they are not living for the Lord, will not lose their salvation?

In particular, the chapters in Revelations that talk about immoral people, that does not say those who are saved. It says those who are in sin will not inherit the kingdom of God.

swancky answers:

Jenny questions…

Religious and non religious people…?

In Revelations 21:6 it refers to water as life in a manner. Could this not submit to the theory of Evolution that we came from single cell organisms INSIDE water?
IF this does submit to Evolution, does it not prove something of God’s existence?

swancky answers:

It’s unlikely. SInce the Bible has gotten absolutely all other methodical ‘facts’ incorrect, I don’t see how that one could be right.

Betty questions…

CATHOLICS ONLY! READ DISCRIPTION BEFORE ANSWERING!?

Why do Catholics say God and Jesus are so merciful and loving. End reading before you answer. I have found two Bible versus that can prove they aren’t as merciful and loving as they are claimed to be. First one is about Jesus:
Mark 11:11-19
11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

Jesus Curses a Fig Tree and Clears the Temple Courts
12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.
15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and started driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’ [a]? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’ [b]”

18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and started looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his instruction.

19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples [c] went out of the city.

That doesn’t signal so loving. Cursing the fig tree because it wasn’t the fig season? Overturning stands? Not vey loving.

Now God not being as loving and merciful as perseived:
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the parched I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

That is Revelations 21:6-8. How is that loving and merciful? He is cleary showing favourtism to certain people. All the people that don’t believe everything he says will be thrown into the sulfur and have a second death? Is that merciful?

Thanks for reading,
~Templar Rock!
Paul Cyp, I see what you’re saying. But you mentioned “self-destruction.” In that Revelations excerpt, God, who is “merciful and loving” is killing his own children. You can’t honestly believe that killing one’s own children is loving and merciful.
The amusing part it, I still believe in God. Just not how Christians described him. I believe in One God, but I don’t believe he is as merciful and as loving as described. Feel free to yell at me and say whatever you want. All you die-hard Catholics, I am not changing my mind.
Wow Nikkimings. You insult me for having my own beliefs? People like you are the reasons I don’t agree with most of the Catholic faith. Thinking if the person doesn’t agree exactly with the Bible, they are “ding bats” and “go to hell.” If you insult to try to convert, it won’t work. If you insult to get your point across, how come you don’t go to hell as well for being rude and prejudice?

swancky answers:

That’s why I left Catholicism. I’m non religious now and more pleased than ever.

Jesus… Wasn’t he human, too? I reckon he was allowed to get mad, like us. And laugh and do all the things us mortals do (lol)

I never believed in the God of the catholics. He was too cruel in my opinion, even though everyone kept saying he was excellent. He doesn’t seem too forthcoming in the Bible.

Hell, here I come! XD

Your Questions About Do Jesus Love Me

Lisa questions…

Why did Jesus like the rich young ruler?

Mr 10:21 KJV –

Then Jesus beholding him loved him,

and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

swancky answers:

Roughly translated:

Jesus looked upon the prideful young schmuck with amusement. Then Jesus promptly sent him away. All the apostles snickered.

Nobody had ever been able to perfectly keep the law.

The young man had even less interest in transportation the cross

Donald questions…

Does Jesus like each of us individually?

I’ve recently stared reading The Excellent Book. There are a lot of songs and sayings and even bumper stickers of sayings that says “Jesus likes (me, us, you.) ” The only Scriptures I’ve seen is Jesus saying that God likes us, but nothing about himself. I haven’t read it all, so I’m sure it’s in there somewhere; but I was wondering if Jesuslike for us is personal. Does he like each one of us individually? And does he like each individual equally? If you could cite scriptures, that would be very helpful.

Thank you!

swancky answers:

God has a drive to like you.

Reckon of your strongest urge and multiply that by 10000% and then some and you might get close to unfolding His drive. It is massive and impossible to quantify. His drive is for you.

A friend met with a family that had a special needs boy. The fella was autistic and obsessive compulsive about frogs. From the time that Mike, my friend, met with the family, the young boy only talked about frogs. That is all he would talk about. Irrevocably, Mike questioned the family if he could take the boy to the park or something to see if there was any frogs around. Agreeable to Mike’s thought, they arrived at the park and could hardly slow the car down before the boy bolted from the door and sprinted like an Olympian over the hill and beyond Mike’s view. Mike was concerned that he would not find the child.

Soon enough, he caught up and saw that he boy made a small bridge across a shallow creek and had laid on the bridge to reach down and catch a frog. The frog seemed to place up with it and stayed still as the boy examined it carefully. With a long even as of looking, the boy stood up and galloped back to the car. Well, Mike shrugged his shoulders and headed back, too. They went home and without a word the boy had retired to his room to do something.

A few minutes later, Mike saw the boy emerge with a drawing. It looked like a photo, but the frog-obsessed boy made a wonderful illustration of the exact frog that he saw at the park. Like I said, it looked like a photo.

How much more do you reckon God obsesses about you? He could draw you perfectly blindfolded. With all He crafted you in delicate flesh in the womb of your mother! He studies you with His full attention to the point that He has the hairs on your head numbered. He might even have names for each of your hairs. Reckon about it … He is crazy about you!

Mt 10:30
“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”

God is waaaay obsessed with you.

Now reckon about it.
Do you reckon that He just stood there trying to choose if He wanted to have a realtionship with Him when I questioned Him that?!?! NO WAY! He was in like a rocket, because He had been coming up for that chance my whole life.

He is more in like with you each day. He is so glad that He died on the cross to have you and hold you. To Him it was a bargain!

Is there a greater sacrifice for God than Christ Jesus the Lord at Calvary?

I can reckon of something that is too fantastic a sacrifice for God and one thing He just won’t let happen, even if it expenditure Him more than His life.

That greater sacrifice is to live without you, and without Him being able to have you and hold you and fulfill all your desires in Him for all eternity. That was the real sacrifice and God would not let it happen, so instead of living without you, He sent His only begotten to die so that you would be with Him for eternity. Yeah, I reckon it is safe to say that you are vacant to be with Him as it is written in scriptures. That is a certainty for all those who have really repented and called out to Him for salvation.

Yes, I know you stumble. I know I do, too. I have shortcomings that I wish would go away, so that I didn’t have to struggle anymore, but that is all a excellent sign. At least we “wish” and “struggle” against the things that weigh us down. At least we are concerned about the things and attitudes that we have that aren’t yet perfect. That is part of revealing what He has given us. We have been given a solution to all our deficiencies and now our deficiencies no longer fit and we are no longer comfortable with them. It reveals that a change has happened, that could never be reversed.

Salvation is Given and Must Be Received…Once Received, Forever Shall It Belong to the Redeemed
From Letters From God and His Christ

6/19/07 – From Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – A Epistle Given to Timothy, For All Those Who Have Ears to Hear

Question questioned by Timothy for a brother in Christ: Lord, can our salvation be lost?

Answer from Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior:

Timothy, write as I speak, and hear My word and give Me glory. For in My word is glory, even the truth, of which no man can change. For if any man changes that which I have spoken, to his own glory, or in the serving of the evil one, even that man shall I ruin.

So then, you have come before Me asking on your brother’s behalf, though he questions in the testing of you, holding you up against his own belief and according to that doctrine of which he has already accepted. Yet I have spoken and will speak for the sake of your asking, and for the edification of him you call friend and brother. For he is My son also, though he does not yet believe that you are who you claim to be. And for this reason, I also have had you write My own word spoken, so for surety, he may know and know that salvation gained is assured.

For it is not by gain that you have bought it. Rather, it is by grace…the gift of the Father ransomed by the blood of the Son. So then, all those of which the Father has given Me, I shall not lose one. For all who come to Me, in no wise shall I cast out. Yet there are those among you, who say it is written by the prophet, that to those who are righteous, who turn from their righteousness and do wickedly, even for this shall the Father remember their righteous deeds no more; and for their wickedness, they shall surely die. This saying is right and was spoken to His prophet of ancient time, according to the Ancient Covenant, and should be taken to heart. Yet know this, you scholars and those without understanding, you lack faith and do not know your God, nor that covenant written in blood as an Everlasting and New Covenant. I died…premeditated, I am risen…and I live forever…amen. And so also shall the righteous man live. Even if this same one turn and stumble, his salvation is in no wise lost to him. He has an Advocate with the Father, and One who stands for him, having already paid for his transgression. For lo, his sin is remembered no more and cast into a dark sea of forgetfulness.

Yet still, these, called by My own name, weep aloud, saying, ‘Lo, if a man turn from the Lord and commit wickedness, even this same man has lost his salvation and shall suffer in the fires of hell’. Again, I say to you, you know neither Me, nor My Father who is in Heaven. For if you knew Him, and had really accepted Me and My word, then I would live in you. And because of this, you would know God’s mercy, which endures forever. I am that mercy, who lives forever to intercede on your behalf, even a high priest forever with the order of Melchisedec. So then, oh arrogant generation, who do call of themselves by My own name, you do greatly err. For in this truth is the kingdom built and eternal life established!…Salvation received in Me is forever, as I am forever and unchanging. For I have already told you, this is a cord that can not be broken, for it is made of the finest thread and strongest steel, and in no wise shall death prevail.

And by no means can one be cast into hell, to suffer day and night without end. This instruction is fake and myth, borrowed from the deceiver, who upon all pagan religion was built. Sons of men, know you not what the Scriptures say, that whosoever believes in the Son abides eternally; and whosoever, has not the Son, shall perish and not see life. How, then, shall one say that whether one believes or believes not, both have eternal life? This instruction among the churches is of the church, called mother, and is of her father, the devil, of which she continually emulates, seeking with her own glory, which she claims she had received of Me…she shall be cut in pieces. And only those, who I see of Myself in them, fastened securely to their heart, in spite of their error, shall escape My fury when it comes…Lo, it will come, for the Day is at hand.

The Day is coming, and is already here, when this planet shall be judged. Lo, it has already come and is yet coming. And there are those among you, of whom I know and like, who say they like Me, yet do not obey My voice, nor will they listen. For they do adhere closely to the doctrines and traditions of men, even all of their holidays, which are perverse in My sight, compelling that which is holy and making it unholy, even as a harlot perverting her ways among many lovers.

So then, premeditated the day, where all those who come to Me in truth, really converted in their hearts, who obey My voice, they shall be taken. And to the rest, though they have called on My name in all supplications, even unto vain babblings, yet are not really converted, neither will they harken to My voice, nor give heed to My commandments, for they do dishonor Me and pervert My name…even these, My children, I shall leave them in the midst of the earth in that day, a day of minor change, a day of tears, a day of gray sorrows. I question you, have these lost their salvation? Had they really received? Do I live in them?…All, who really receive of Me, know Me, and I live in them. And if I live in them, then, in no wise, will these turn away. For one, who abides in My like, shall never leave it.

For they have tasted of the divine gift of My glory and will not turn, but rest securely at My right hand. These are My sheep, the tame of My flock. They call and I hear them, as I had called unto them and they did hear. All My sheep hear My voice, and do follow the signal of My voice wheresoever I lead them. Yet there are many in this flock that remain wild, but of them has My Father also given Me. And of these, I must also upshot in…they shall be tried, refined by fire unto pure white stones, of which all shall be given new names. They shall come to Me by fantastic tribulation, and shall be made white in My own blood, bringing glory to My name, even the name of the Father who is in Heaven, because of the nam

Charles questions…

Does JESUS like me as much as HARRY POTTER does?

Aggravate Potter willingly sacrificed his life to protect us from Voldemort, who would have ruined us all. (Aggravate’s death didn’t stick though).

Jesus sacrificed his life to protect us from ***his own wrath.*** (The death didn’t stick either). It seems that since Jesus only saved us from Himself, he doesn’t like us as much as Aggravate Potter does. Aggravate Potter never wanted to torture and ruin humanity.

swancky answers:

And both not real.

Helen questions…

Whats the best way to spread the like of jesus to everyone in the planet until they all believe like I do!?

Is it incorrect to feel so much like for everyone of gods son’s and daughters that you sometimes just want to force them to grasp the one truth, That Jesus likes them and only through him will they ascend into heaven and not burn in the pits of hell!

swancky answers:

Yes, it is incorrect that you like everyone so much that you just want to force them to grasp your point of view. That’s happened many times in Christianity: the Crusades, the Inquisitions, the Holocaust, et al.

Remember, your beliefs are just that: beliefs. You do not have proof that they are the only possible truth out there. There is no proof of either heaven or hell, or, for that topic, Jesus. It is your belief which makes them real to you.

If you *really* want to show how much you like Jesus, then follow his commandments to like G-d and like others. Be a bright model showing his like in what you do. It is not “like” to force your views upon others. In my experience, the best, most wonderful, most inspiring Christians are those who live the faith, those who impart their beliefs in action, not by preaching, but by DOING.

Joseph questions…

How much does my beloved lord Jesus like me?

i know how much he does but i need to hear it from a right christian please.
God Bless You = )

swancky answers:

You are the pearl of fantastic price. If you were the only person on earth, the Lord would still, joyfully, have gone to the cross for you. When He said “I go to prepare a place for you, and when I come back, I will take you to be with me”, He was speaking of you. Jesus has prepared a place specifically for you. You are the apple of God’s eye. All the grains of sand on earth? That is His thoughts towards you. He knows the number of hairs on your head, your face is imprinted in the palm of His hand. He sees your uprisings and your downsittings, and no weapon formed against you will prosper.

You are His and no one can snatch you out of His hand. He will never leave nor forsake you, you are His treasure.

Your Questions About The Christian Family Book

Ken questions…

Need Book Recommendations please!?

Can you please recommend a excellent book for this circumstance? Looking for a book that helps clarify the “leaving family before cleaving to wife” transition. A book that clarifies excellent boundaries. I need something that would help teach a man how to distance overprotective and clingy female family members as he prepares to receive a wife and start a family. Christian-based books ideal but not necessary. Thank you!!! Please give a small information on the book you recommend also, as this will help the choice on it’s appropriateness.

swancky answers:

I dont know about a book written on this other than this is biblical and as far as what cleave means you can try a bible dictionary to clarify, I was told by a christian counslor that is cleave really means to persue, you leave your family and persue your spouse and you never stop persuing, your spouse, becomes your 1st most valuable link behind God.

Betty questions…

A Fantastic Christian book? birth hegemony?

That talks about how we as women shouldn’t take birth hegemony and leave it up to God?…I looked up Be fruitful and Multiply by Nancy Cambel but I was wondering if there is anything else? I just got the book “Everyday Lies women believe” can anyone else tell me a fantastic book on Family UNplanning?

swancky answers:

The book is called Compelling charge of your fertility. Designed for getting pregnant, but gives you information on how to use it for the natural birth hegemony as well.
I have a friend who has successfully used this as her method of birth hegemony for 5 years and she is really pleased with it. Here is a link to find out more information.

George questions…

Do you reckon that Aggravate Potter books are appropriate for Christian children?

I don’t see the problem with them as long as the child is ancient enough to know the difference between fantasy and reality. I reckon it’s fantastic that kids are reading and expanding their vocabularies and imaginations. But I know that a lot of Christian families reckon these books are terrible for their children and I want to know what some of you reckon.

swancky answers:

It’s up to each family to choose what is appropriate. But, I reckon censoring such excellent, and well-renowned, reading is leap to backfire. Kids will read it ultimately and wonder why it was such a huge deal and what your problem was. And what else is excellent that you’re telling them is terrible.

Over-shielding kids can seriously erode a parent’s credibility, especially as the kid gets older. I don’t advise it.

Sharon questions…

i need a compelling book for christian teenagers?

i grew up in a christian family but didn’t accept christ into my life until only about two years ago. I am in a public highschool, and for the most part, am a complete weirder to my life at home. i feel so tired of being a christian, but i know this is incorrect. lately, i’ve been listening to excellent uplifting christian composition to try and get myself back with god, but nothing really pops out at me. i don’t want a devotional book, i just want a book that is not bible verse with bible verse. i’ve tried chicken soup but i did’nt like it. any spiritual books for teenagers that give really fantastic intakes amd lessons on life as we live it? preferably for girls. i like jesus so much and i have gone through many storms trusting Him, but i want my lif to be completely Christ-to the top and i want all my non-christian friends to wonder why i am different. as i said before, i like my God so much and am striving to try to make my life a beter model of His redemption and like.

swancky answers:

May I offer you the very best books available today? Many Christian authors have not been born again and are really only diffusion Satan’s message.
God said we must be holy as He is holy. So how do we become sinless, blameless and righteous right now in front of Him? Many Christians make Him a liar because they turn down to believe in the full atonement of the water and the Spirit (John 3:5). They do not belong to Him even as they carry on doing what they do.

Mandy questions…

How can I tell my Christian family that I don’t reckon God is real?

My sister is a total Christian. I have always tried to be a Christian but I just can’t do it.

How can I tell her I don’t believe in God without her freaking out?

Well here’s my belief: I belief that I when I hear something I question questions about it if it doesn’t make sense to me. And religion makes no sense to me. I have tried for years to believe it all. I go to church. I read Christian books. I try so hard, but I just cannot be a Christian.

She would weep and we would struggle and never get along again. I just can’t live this way. I live each week of my life vacant to church, reading books, and giving my money to the church.

Christianity makes no sense to me. I wish it did. But it doesn’t. Can someone please talk to me? A Christian who can help me?

I am wayy overwhelmed. Can someone help me find a place to start?

swancky answers:

Don’t. Is there any particular reason you want to hurt them?

Sandy questions…

Jesus Christ by groundbreaking new?

What does it mean to YOU.

when I was vacant through a dark time (lol like link months ago for about a year and a half) I would listen to this song and drink alone.

I reckon it is so gorgeous. I am not even religious, but it made me reckon about my life and how I was living it.

I would call drinking, “riding the gold chariot”

I would get into this state of mind where I was niether alive or dead. But kind of just “floating” and lost in my own head. Drinking.
same here. I went to go see them with my sisters and bff and her husband back in dec. So freaking incredible. just..there songs touches a place in my heart and soul.

WE ALL GOT WOOD AND NAILS.
oh I just nickname it riding the gold chariot..because well I did hahaha

swancky answers:

Groundbreaking new changed my LIFE.

It’s a gorgeous gorgeous song. It spoke to me most when i was vacant through a dark period and i was at a point where i could really mess my life up or get on track. The song to me was about getting myself together and finding strength to go on.

I like the line, “will i/divide/and fall apart/cause my bright/is too slight/to hold back all my dark”

the band is AMAZING, both musically and lyrically.

Betty questions…

Brand New – ‘Jesus Christ’ video?

Does anyone know if and where you can see the video for Jesus Christ? In an interview with Jesse Lacey he says, “Yeah, it’s weird…we just finished shooting our video for Jesus [Christ] which is…it was kind of…us being on video seems very unnatural to us”. So does this mean there is a video? Or did it not really get made in the end?

swancky answers:

I’ve looked everywhere for the video to that song and I am still not able to find it.
They have a video where it shows pictures of the band, but I have yet to see an real video.
Maybe they were referring to a live performance or somthing.

Your Questions About End Time Prophecy Scriptures

Ruth questions…

Are stupid people who ignore Morrison’s “The End” times insight just living in a Ship of Fools?

The End is near and Jim was clear.

Why do so many people waste time with all these phoney supposed “end-time” prophets when Jim predicted this all long before cable tv.

The Scripture:

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes…again

There will be no “safety” people, no need for “elaborate plans”, its all coming to an end soon! Real soon…anytime now….and that will be when Mr. Mojo rises to wipe out sexually insecure religious freaks and make a new orgasmic order of higher beings.

swancky answers:

These thoughts and words are all stolen…. The end
who and needs to be told this beyond the age of five…the end
stating the self evident is not a insight, even if you paraphrase it from someone who is a more creative thinker then you…..the end

Lizzie questions…

Can you tell me about end times prophecies and predictions?

Many believers of different religions say the time is near, bibles show the predicitions, some people even have dates.

Can you all tell me why and how you have this belief, texts, scripture, signs etc

swancky answers:

No.Rational thought prevents it.

William questions…

Christians: What prophecies have been fulfilled that are written in the bible? (not end time prophecies)?

dont just say what they are. Use scripture.
I meant use scripture along with your answer

swancky answers:

I am vacant to give you a insight from God himself. Listen in
DEUTERONOMY 31:15,16,17
15) And the Lord appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle.
16) And the Lord said unto Moses, Premeditated, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; And this people will rise up, and go a-whoring with the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
17) Then my rage shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?

Now let me question a question. Is God’s insight still right to this day? E-mail me at bible_god-holy@yahoo.com
seeking answers. I pray for you all.Amen

Maria questions…

Why are there so many competing theories of Eschatology, End Times, and Millennialism?

Biblical passages predicting the future are ambiguous. The events themselves are open to many interpretations. There is no clear indication of either their timing or sequence. Some Christians believe that “millennium” does not mean a time interval of exactly 1,000 years. Rather they know it to submit to an indefinitely long interval of time. Some Christians interpret events mentioned in the Christian Scriptures as descriptions of real endeavors in our future even as others interpret them symbolically and/or as events that have already occurred

There are a fantastic many conflicting beliefs about the End Times. A lot of intra-denominational and inter-denominational rivalry has resulted from disagreements about End Time insight.

For model, the Roman Catholic Church and most road and liberal denominations do not have expectation that a Rapture will occur in the way anticipated by many fundamentalist and other evangelical faith groups.

swancky answers:

Because the Bible is imaginative literature, and all the silly, meaningless controversy surrounding it can be likened to an endless literary debate.

Daniel questions…

is the end of times a insight or conspiracy?

are many of here believe in the end of times like’s what it tells in the Holly Scriptures?… i guess it’s right because God tell’s it so… but how will gonna be it happen?… by natural calamities? or man made?… alien intervention like crazy wicked people trying to make people believe or them itself?… i just wonder if the conspiracy revealed in the internet about this so called seret societies and the illuminati is not just a legend and its not only a mere controversial, and i wonder why it make’s like it so fascinating, but that they even just not let people or them to give a clear information and a right dissimination about this thing…im still curious at this time and could hardly beleive but its still can’t change my faith neither the planet,.. God already save us from the cross,.. God bless all….

swancky answers:

The chattering classes are always jumping from one silly thought to the next, imagining all sorts of vain things. God has told us all we need to know about the future. He has not told us when, or what the symbolic language in the Bible means because those who are indwelt with the Holy Spirit will be guided and protected by Him for whatever events unfold in their life-time. God commands us to believe Him and to entrust Him. That is why Jesus told us just to take one day at a time – to pray for our daily bread (which rules out hoarding food for dread of Armageddon), and not to worry about tomorrow. That’s in Matthew 6:11 & 34. If we cannot entrust Jesus for the truth of those small things, how will we ever entrust Him when calamities break out?

Jesus questioned, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth? ” (Luke 18:8) The implication is that faith shall be in shockingly small supply. Also, with Daniel received prophecies about end-times, he was told “The words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will know, but those who are wise will know.” (Dan 12:9-10) Come the time for the prophetic words to be un-sealed, God’s people will know. Until then, many wicked people will spout their interpretations, leading many off beam. Take the information of the Psalmist in Psalm 37!

Your Questions About Faith Without Works Is Dead

Carol questions…

Where in the bible does is say: faith without works is dead AND works without faith is dead?

swancky answers:

Nowhere in my Bible.

Maria questions…

Christians – do you believe faith without works is dead?

One of the things I find least appealing about Christianity – aside from it being exclusive rather than inclusive – is the number of people I meet at least around here that just talk the talk.

The Roman Catholics (for those of you pope-o-phobes who don’t contain Catholics as Christians) and the few Buddhists around here certainly walk a wide, inclusive path here.

Any thoughts ?
Wretched if I made you feel defensive, but I just came from coffee with a group of highly spiritual people – non Christians for the most part.

swancky answers:

Faith is not what some people reckon it is. Their human dream is a delusion.

Because they observe that faith is not followed by excellent works or a better life, they fall into error, even though they speak and hear much about faith. “Faith is not enough”, they say, “You must do excellent works, you must be pious to be saved.”

They reckon that, when you hear the gospel, you start working, making by your own strength a thankful heart which says, “I believe.” That is what they reckon right faith is, but because this is a human thought, a dream, the heart never learns anything from it, so it does nothing and reform doesn’t come from this “faith” either.

Instead, faith is God’s work in us. It changes us and gives new birth from God. (John 1:13). It kills the Ancient Adam and makes us completely different people. It changes our hearts, our spirits, our thoughts and all our powers. It brings the Holy Spirit with it. Yes, it is a living, creative, committed and powerful thing, this faith. Faith cannot help doing excellent works constantly. It doesn’t stop to question if excellent works ought to be done, but before anyone questions, it already has done them and continues to do them without stopping.

Anyone who does not do excellent works in this manner is an unbeliever. He stumbles around and looks for faith and excellent works, even though he does not know what faith or excellent works are. Yet he gossips and chatters about faith and excellent works with many words.

Faith is a living, bold entrust in God’s grace, so certain of God’s favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it. Such confidence and knowledge of God’s grace makes you pleased, joyful and bold in your link to God and all creatures. The Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith. Because of it, you unreservedly, willingly and joyfully do excellent to everyone, supply everyone, suffer all kinds of things, like and praise the God who has shown you such grace.

Thus, it is just as impossible to separate faith and works as it is to separate heat and light from fire! Therefore, watch out for your own fake thoughts and guard against excellent-for-nothing gossips, who reckon they’re smart enough to define faith and works, but really are the greatest of fools.

Question God to work faith in you, or you will remain forever without faith, no topic what you wish, say or can do.

-quote from Martin Luther VERMISCHTE DEUTSCHE SCHRIFTEN

Ruth questions…

Faith without works is dead? Not who is right…what is right?

faith without works is dead?” I don’t want to know whether you reckon Mormons have it right and Christians have it incorrect, or vice versa…I want to know who else seems to grasp that both sides stumble because of the classification of “works.” And no anti-religious Zeitgeist speculations from people who have read neither the Bible or Book of Mormon please. I mean lets be real, Christ is a necessary aspect of our fuctioning society…we’d still be in the dark ages without faith…or living under oppression in our mud houses at best.

swancky answers:

Service is Like in action.

And the first meaning of Faith, meant KNOWING.

Richard questions…

Faith without works is dead? Would the faith be grace if law is not of faith? Would works be mercy and concord?

Galatians 3:12
the law is not of faith

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]:
for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

James 2:20
But wilt thou know, O vain man,
that faith without works is dead?

James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without works is dead also.

Paul, Peter, Jude
By his grace, mercy and concord are multiplied

Revelation 22:21 (The End)
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

So does the allegory for “faith without works is dead
mean grace without mercy and concord is law (dead),
if the law is all vanity and vexation of Spirit (Grace),
and the legalists are vain people who know not that
grace is suffcient means no law at all is vital?

swancky answers:

(YES); I Really Agree; Faith Without Works IS DEAD !

Linda questions…

FAITH without WORKS is dead being alone. what does this mean if WORKS are out?

James 2:20
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Romans 3:28
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

*Are the WORKS of the LAW in or out?

Romans 3:27
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ

Galatians 3:10
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse:

swancky answers:

When Paul refers to “works” he means the law of Moses. Not excellent works of the spirit.

Your Questions About Why Become A Doctor

Helen questions…

Why are you a doctor or why do you want to become a doctor (MD)?

Don’t just say because I want to help people because you can help people as a social worker, teacher, etc.? Also, why specifically a doctor, why not a nurse, a physician assistant, etc. if you’re interested in a career in health care. Anyone is welcome to answer as long as they can articulate it well and answer the question properly.

swancky answers:

Primarily, the intellectual challenge, combines with the whole helping people thing. I also like the autonomy that comes with being a physician, and few other careers, especially those in health care, offer that.

I’m fascinated by how the body works, and I’m now in a career where I not only get to see that, but I get to manipulate it. I like understanding (as much as we are able) the hows and whys of physiology, pathology and pharmacology. The incredible thing is, that as soon as you learn the answer to one question, you find that there are twice as many yet unanswered questions to premeditated. Human bodies are incredible things.

That, and I get to stick needles pretty much everywhere in people, and that’s just plain fun. Current favorite block (with spinals, of course): interscalene. Might be something else next month.

Donald questions…

Why Doctors have become men eater eater?

I really cant under stand why doctros have become like men eaters? Now a days they damn care of patients problems, they just send dignostic centers for 100 type of tests which are not concern with patients problem. I mean, if you go for head problem ,they send you to their fix dignostic centers for CT scan of stomoch or back or other parts of your body, which didnt concern with your head problem, if you go to other dignostic center for test, they throw your report. why
? why these doctors have became men eaters? Any answer?

swancky answers:

First of all – its MAN eaters, not men eaters, and secondly by sending you for a CT of the stomach in a head shock they will checking for other problems, such as gastrointestinal flow of blood, plus many problems arise in different parts of the body compared to whre pain is felt. Appendicitis is first felt in the middle of the abdomen just below the stomach, though the appendix is in the far right corner of the abdomen. The same can be said for heart problems, these may be felt right down the left arm, in the stomach and abdomen as well as the neck! The doctor may be checking for multiple things and do not take uneccasary tests as this is a waste to the hospitals resources and your money, or if your in the UK, just hospital resources.

Different places also have different protocol for each ailment bought in.

Many different tests are also ordered for both your protection and the hospitals protection. Let take for instance somebody with symptoms of meningitis. By compelling a blood test we can find meningicoccal bacteria that backs up our diffrential diagnosis. But since meningitis is very much llike septicaemia in the way it presents it self we have to conduct other tests, such as a lumbar puncture (or ‘spinal tap’) as well as other diagnostic tests. If this was not done then you could be treated for something you don’t really have and therefore you may be able to sue the hospital, therefore doctors have to carry out multiple test to rule out all other diffrential diagnoses before treating yours. This not jsut protects the hospital from a lawsuit, but saves YOUR life.

Your Questions About 16.5 Truck Tires

John questions…

Why won’t my truck power brake?

I have a 1993 Chevy C2500 350 5.7 liter and it has the stock 16.5 tires on it and it won’t power brake no topic how much you give it gas now if you place it in reverse and try it will burn the tires down I know the truck has the power because if you just step on it from a dead stop it’ll burn the tires down but just won’t power brake vacant forwards also i don’t know if it’s related but when you set the parking brake all the way down it won’t go no where no topic how much you give it gas vacant forward but again if you place it in reverse its like there is hardly no resistance. Any Thoughts?
Really I have a 4.10 gear ratio

swancky answers:

Sounds like the transmission is not selecting 1′st or (low gear) on take off, this can be rectified by having the bands adjusted. Any competent motor mechanic should be able to do that for you.
The parking brake is not vacuum helped and it never works as well as the foot brake when the engine is in succession, especially when reversing this is typical of all rear drum brake vehicles. I have found that my vehicle will reverse with it’s parking brake is on as well, I live in Australia and drive an Australian built 1974 Ford GT Falcon.

Mandy questions…

Did I spend too much on this 1984 Dodge Truck?

I just bought a 1984 4 door (crew cab) long bed dually Dodge Ram custom 350 in brilliant shape with a freshly fully rebuilt 360 gas engine, Brand spankin new tires all around, and an extra set of rear doors. for $800. My buddy has an 86 single cab small bed with first 360 and it needs some work, but he paid $800, So I’m guessing I didn’t do too terrible. Either that or he was really ripped off. I have never seen one of these trucks for sale before so I’m curious of what they sell for. Did I get a decent deal? I’d have to assume the 16.5tires cost a excellent amount, and the rebuilding of the engine was atleast $500.
the dually is a 1 ton

swancky answers:

No…. Congrats!

George questions…

Should I buy a 4×4 or a 4×2 first truck?

This truck is vacant to be my first vehicle I thinking of getting a diesel Ford Powerstroke or Dodge Cummins. I found a nice Powerstroke but its 4×2 and ive found a nice cummins that’s 4×4. The cummins is about $1000 more.

I live in North NJ and we get quite a bit of snow. So im just wondering if I were to buy the Ford could i just place off road tires on it and add some weight in the back and it be fine. I don’t plot on vacant mudding possibly pulling a fiber glass boat.

Whats your opinion 4×4 or 4×2
11 hours ago – 4 days left to answer.
Additional Details
Would adding weight and off road tires help allot or is the 4×4 just better. Also does diesel help with snow or does it make no difference if it gas in snow.

Details on trucks
Ford-7.3L Turbo Powerstroke Diesel, 188K MILES, Tool Box, Stacks, Air flow system, Auto transmission, Non power windows. 1997 ford f250 Super Duty $4500

Dodge-Cummins Turbo Diesel, 237k miles, 3 in. body lift, four 35/12/16.5, power locks, power seats.
Auto trannsmission. 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 $5500

swancky answers:

I would be leery of either of those vehicles due to the high mileage . A four wheel drive will help you in fresh , unplowed snow , but on plowed , packed roadways it would not be value the extra expense. A excellent radial tire on snow pack will do as excellent of a job as mud / snow tires will and as you probably know , on ice nothing is value diddly except staying in by the fire. I don’t reckon that a diesel engine would be much advantage as a gas engine is gray enough to give a small traction on the front and 4 to 500 pounds placed directly over the rear axel is about all you need and with no more weight than that, you can leave it there all winter without to much impact of fuel mileage when there is no snow on the roads.
